Shekarau denies receiving PDP campaign fund

Ibrahim Shekarau says he does not think his corruption investigation is politically motivated – He denies receiving campaign fund from the EFCC – He says he is ready to prove his innocence to the anti-graft commission A former presidential candidate, Ibrahim Shekarau who is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Commsion (EFCC) on corruption related issues has said he will not mind spending 10 years in the commission’s custody to prove his innocence. READ ALSO: EFCC arrest ex-governor of Akwa Ibom state Shekarau who served as minister of information during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan was implicated by Alhaji Aminu Bashir Wali who is the former foreign affairs minister who confessed to the EFCC that he received the money on behalf of Kano PDP. Wali said he received N950 million campaign fund and that he gave Shekarau his share although the latter denied receiving money although he confessed the money was shared in his house. Premium Times reports that the former Kano state governor said on Sunday, May 15 that he was ready to prove his innocence and said he does not believe his trial had any political undertone. “I am not suspecting any political undertone in my arrest but rather regard it as an act of God to test my faith. “I was told that one of the beneficiaries of the N950 million in question implicated me; that I was given N25 million as my share of the money but could not state where, how and when.” READ ALSO: Two ex-ministers make shocking revelations to EFCC The fund is believed to be part of the infamous $2.1 billion arms deal fund which was mismanaged by the office of the national security adviser. Shekarau said Wali was the main person that should be fingered in the campaign fund saga “Wali approached me on the day he collected the money and said because of security he wanted to share the N950m in my residence and I obliged. “He brought the money to my house around 2am. I was at my room upstairs when they came in and I remained there up till the time they finished the sharing. Wali and some other party members shared the money according to the directives given to them. So I did not even see the money with my eyes.” SHARE THIS NEWS!
